Rest Stop Series -- from dawn to dusk

The drive to Kentucky and back, as well as the visit, was a success. It did not produce the intended result -- as in, my son staying in Kentucky -- but it turned out to be quite the coming of age trip anyway and he made some good decisions for himself.

My time with Sandie was wonderful -- comfortable, funny, and sometimes serious. I definitely did not expect to travel to Kentucky to get buried in a foot and a half of snow, but that's what happened. Sandie sent us home yesterday with a batch of freshly baked, gluten free, chocolate chip, Kahlua brownies. Bless her.

I had decided, in advance, not to stop for pictures along the way, mostly because of time considerations (10 hour drive), but it turned out to be a good idea because we were in the mountains and hills and most people were going 75+ mph. No matter how pretty the barn or rocks or cows or rivers were, I was not going to get killed pulling off the road and getting out of my car. But I did manage to grab a quick shot at each rest stop.

There is one exception, the last shot, the sunset. It was too pretty and too fitting an end to our trip to pass up. I pulled over, rolled down the window, put the camera on auto and took two shots. The car rattled from the passing tractor trailers, only to add to the adventure. ;-)

Tomorrow I will post some shots Sandie's yard (before the snow), the snow, and the Louisville water front (with snow!).

(The contents of our road trip mixes -- for inquiring minds like Scrivener -- are revealed in a comment to this post!)

she even got a hydrant along the way! :-)

the two bookend sun shots are awesome!

and the cd mixes sound pretty good. you're giving me a huge craving for boston right now! could be partly because it's so warm here right now. we're having a traditional summer evening, with crisp clear skies, bright stars, a brisk little moon, and warm and crickets and...and you had snow in kentucky. wow!

Whoa. Black Eyed Peas, Amy Winehouse, Boston, and Meat Loaf. That's quite a mix.

I love the sunset. Whenever I see sunset pictures, I think back to the time when I spent more time at the beach and it was a ritual to watch the view with friends and be thankful for another great day. Thanks!

Love the lamppost with the tree branches ~ beautiful. You did a great job documenting your trip.

Carry on my wayward son - now that's a blast from the past. Would you believe me if I told you I went to see Kansas in concert? when I was 15? :-O
